Win XP VM freezes after Backup Job

I have a Windows XP VM running a legacy application with 1GB RAM and 2 sockets and 4 core CPU. Application processing is disabled and set to copy only for the VM. After every backup job the Guest OS freezes and is inaccessible for remote connection. Only a reset of the VM restores the connectivity.

Is this an issue with the Guest OS RAM, limited to just 1GB?

There is no minimal requirement to the guest OS RAM, so I would suggest to contact Veeam support for an assistance.
Does backup finishes successfully by the way?

Backup finishes with warning. 'Cannot use VMWare Tools quiescence because VMware Tools are not running'

It means that backup job tried to quiesce VM, using VMware Tools, and failed due to absence of those. You can simply disable this functionality (job settings -> storage -> advanced - vSphere -> Enable VMware Tools quiescence). Thanks.

Can you reproduce the issue manually? Take a VM snapshot, using vSphere client, keep it long enough (the time similar to the one backup job takes), delete it and see whether the VM in question will be frozen.
