Hello,
[Case # 00591706]
I know that we talked about a similar problem (Windows 7 acting as B&R Server and Proxy) and I know that Windows 8.1 should be fully supported,
but in our case it seems not to.
Environment:
Branch Office (30 Locations, Germany)
VMWARE ESX 5.5 U1 R2 latest Patches
5 VMs. Server 2003, 2008, 2012R2, WIN7, WIN8.1 [B&R | Proxy | WAN Acc | 10GB | 4 Cores | Attached QNAP iSCSi Datastore as Local Datastore for VEEAM]
Central
2 VMWARE ESX 5.5 U1 R2 [Cluster] latest Patches
DL 380 G8 | Windows Server 2012 R2 | B&R | Proxy | WAN Acc | 64GB | 4 Cores | Local SSD RAID 5 for Caching | Attached HP P2000 G3 60TB SAS)
In our Test Environment we used a Windows Server 2012 R2 without any Problems, but now we want to use a Client OS (license costs).
What we want to do is having Windows 8.1 as B&R Server | Proxy | WAN Acc in our Branch Offices.
Everything works fine except the HotAdd Feature, what means the B&R Server falls back to Network Mode (Remember, you get only
40% Performance from VMWare IP Stack..)
In real it is ~ 40-50MB/s, not really bad, but nothing against the ~190MB/s with HotAdd.
What we checked so far:
read the KB Article
http://www.veeam.com/kb1054 http://forums.veeam.com/vmware-vsphere- ... -this-disk....
We have No iSCSi Problem (Only 1 LUN | 1Gbit)
No different VMFS Datastores (3/5) Hardware of all Machines to backup is V8 NO IDE drives.
VM Ware Tools are Up to Date.
Veeam 7.0 Patch 4 is installed.
Proxy is in same subnet (same Machine) License from VEEAM and ESX is correct.
Restarts of ESX Hosts and Backup Server is done (Multiple times).
Manually attaching a VM Ware Snapshot to the Proxy works.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
short:
Windows 7 works fine! Windows Server 2012 R2 works fine! But Windows 8.1 [HotAdd] does not.
Is anyone here, having the same problem or having a good idea?
Your help is highly appreciated.
Thomas

Re: WIN8.1 acting as Server - No Hot Add
Are you able to manually hot add the disks to the VM in question, using vSphere client? Thanks.

Re: WIN8.1 acting as Server - No Hot Add
Hi Thomas,
Is this the only Windows 8.1 server you have to try as a proxy server? Also just to make sure we're on the same page - you're referring to proxy servers used at source site to retrieve VM data and you're using backup jobs, not replication?
Thanks!
