Windows FLR Failed - MountRestorePoint failed

Post by raymond.mui »

Case# 00605459

Our environment:
- VMWare ESX 5.0
- Guest OS: Windows Server 2012

We have a Windows 2012 file server running on VMWare 5.0. There are many volumes on that Windows server and over a million files in it -- as it is the primary file server in our company. We replicate it every hour from 6:00am to 8:00pm on weekdays. At 10:00pm, we backup the "replica". The reason we backup the "replica" but not the production VM is that our backup server only has sufficient storage in the replicated site. Anyway, the replication and backup run well.

Our problem:
We cannot do any File Level Restore. When running a file level restore, we can see that the Veeam server loads the backup media, and mount many volumes under C:\VeeamFLR. However, after loading for about 15 to 20 minutes, the error message is shown: --
MountRestorePoint failed, mountId 'c354612d-efc9-48f0-8c0a-47dccc6475b3' FlrManagementService: Failed to mount restore point (mountId:c354612d-efc9-48f0-8c0a-47dccc6475b3) This restore point is already mounting.
The problematic "MountId" changed every time a Windows FLR is run.

More info:
- The Veeam server is physical
- The VBK files is on the SAN storage directly attached to the Veeam server.

** On the guest Windows 2012 server, there is a spanned volume. Would it be any problem loading spanned volume? **

Now, I cannot restore individual files.

Please help. Many Thanks

Hi Raymond,

Have you tried using Other OS FLR wizard to restore Guest OS files from your backups?

Thanks!

Spanned volume should not be a problem, unless you're using Veeam B&R prior to v6.5.

Also it seems like you're trying to mount the volume which is already in a mounting stage. Let us know what your technical engineer says after reviewing restore job log files. Thanks!

It is Veeam 7.0, with the latest patch, though it was upgraded from 6.5.

At first, i thought it was the case. As a matter of fact, such problem is not only happening recently. In the past, if this error raised, I could usually load the media after trying a few more times I have also tried to reboot the Veeam server, no difference.

In this two weeks, a full backup VBK growth to over 4TB -- not sure it is related.

Besides, the mountID changed every time the error was shown.

Thanks

The backup size shouldn't matter. Let's wait and see what support team say about this. Thanks.

Still waiting for a reply from the support team.

Meanwhile, I've just found something from the Veeam.File.Explorer_yyyy_mm_dd_xxxx.log:

The job failed after 15 minutes. Other failure restore jobs shown the same in the logs.

Would the FLR fails due to a hardcoded timeout value?

Please avoid posting log snippets, but rather attach the entire debug logs package to your support case. We don't do debug log analysis over the forum posts, and our engineers responsible for log analysis require full debug logs for the research, not just snippets you think might be relevant. Thanks for understanding!

Okay okay, put it this way:

Everytime FLR runs, it fails exactly after 15 minutes.

In a remote session, the Veeam support added a key (related to timeout) to the Registry. After restarting the Veeam Backup Service, I was able to load the backup.

Thanks for all the help.

Suffering from the same issue.
Would it be possible to provide the registry entry to increase the timeout. The machine I'm trying to restore from worked, but took a long time to start, in v6.5.

I'm not sure timeout could help in this case. Anyway, please contact support directly, as it is advised to do with all technical issues. Thanks.

I'd like to see if it works before raising a call that could possibly be solved quickly.

I mean that in your case the backup mounts successfully (though taking longer than expected) and, hence, increasing timeout value does not make sense. Am I getting your wrong?

Can I get the registry key?
The VeeamFLR contains the folder of the servername, and then after 15 minutes abandons with the same error as the poster.
Mountpoint already in use

You did just an hour ago, give them some time, this is not an urgent issue. ;)

In case of an urgent issue, you should specify so on opening the case and assign corresponding severity. The case should be handled accordingly.

I have the same problem and I opened a case, but I am still waiting for an answer.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime?
