Is it possible to do a Windows Server file server data backup without VSS?

I want to backup only the data, as is. The virtual machine, OS wise, is on another volume, and I will back that up separately

sure, just keep the default settings

(no application aware processing, no VMware tools quiescing)

If you only want one disk, just exclude the others.

I will try that out. That automatically disables using VSS???

yes it does (at least if you are talking about image level VM backup which I expect as you posted in the VMware forum. Veeam Agent for Windows backup is a different story)

But to backup a file server "data" (=files), shouldn't be VSS used to guarantee the data integrity?

In some scenarios, VSS cant be used.
