Backup Oracle RMAN Veeam plugin jobs to tape
Good day
We are running Oracle RMAN backups using the Veeam plugin to StoreOnce catalyst store configured in Veeam.
Under Backups/disk I can see the RMAN restore point.
I want to use Tape job to write the StoreOnce catalyst store that contains the backup files to tape but when I start the job it immediately finishes with success status saying "no new files to backup per job status" but the catalyst store does have 30Tb of backup data in it.
Can someone please advise?
I get the feeling Veeam is not able to write Oracle RMAN jobs with Veeam plugin from the catalyst store to tape yet?
Thanks

Hi Ruaan,
Yes, backup to tape support for RMAN plug-in backups is an existing feature request for future releases. As a workaround, you can use file to tape job and process the folder with backup files.
Thanks!

Re: Backup Oracle RMAN Veeam plugin jobs to tape
Hi PetrM
Thanks for the feedback
Yes unfortunately the file to tape option wont work as a workaround for this client. The data that needs to be written to tape is Terabytes of DB data located on Oracle ASM disk groups
Any idea if the option to write Oracle RMAN jobs with Veeam plugin from the catalyst store to tape will be available in V12?
Thanks

Re: Backup Oracle RMAN Veeam plugin jobs to tape
No, it won't be in v12. Also, our main idea is to provide the possibility to copy RMAN plug-in backups from repository to tape, similar to file to tape job, and not to run RMAN backups directly to tape. This feature won't be in v12 neither and I cannot share ETA now.
Thanks!
Thanks!

[MERGED]Oracle RMAN Veeam Plug in copy to tape
Hi,
We are currently making Oracle RMAN backups via the Veeam Oracle RMAN Plug in to and HPE Storeonce Catalyst store. We need to make a copy of these backups to tape. We are running Veeam v11. We have tried the Veeam Tape copy option. We can select the tape drive, we can select the backup job stored on the catalyst store. When we execute the job, it says it is successful, but it is not. It does not work. Please can you advise if this is merely a bug? Is there another way to make a copy of our Oracle RMAN backup to tape?
Kind regards
Andrew Rycroft

Hi Andrew
I moved your post to this topic.
Backup to Tape is not implemented for Enterprise Plugins.
As a workaround, File To Tape Jobs can be used. But I'm not sure if a catalyst store can be provided as a fileshare.
Thanks
Fabian

[MERGED] Oracle RMAN to tape
Hello there,
How is that feature implementation going?
Would be a huge advancement for some of our clients.
Currently we are stucked with the file-to-tape method, it is nit GFS compatible, not fits to our current media pool, would need a completely new one just for this job.
Local disk backup repository on the Veeam B&R server, this is the proxy as well.
Tried to did a workaround: do a file copy, then file backup job, then backup this to tape, but am still stucked at the file file copy: VSS and 70% full volume of ReFS are a bad constellation, so no option for that either, smh...
It would be most welcome if you had _any_ idea how to implement an RMAN files to tape job with a GFS media pool and with a local disk backup repository.
Also tried a support ticket for that one, but nothing so far. (Case #05736586)

[MERGED] Oracle RMAN backup to tape
Hi,
We have a job created using the Oracle RMAN. How can I back it up to tape? When I created a backup to tape job, I don't see an option for me to select the Oracle RMAN backup job. Any suggestion how to back it up to tape?
Thanks

[Feature Request] Application plug-in to Tape
Hello.
I contacted support to check the possibility of creating a copy of backup jobs executed via plugin to tape. I was informed that currently there is no possibility to do this automatically. Is there any plan or possibility of this happening in the future? It would greatly improve being able to generate a copy to tape of an RMAN backup automatically.
Thanks

Re: Backup Oracle RMAN Veeam plugin jobs to tape
Hello! Please add my vote to the count - we're definitely wanting this feature.
We've been pushing our DBAs to backup using RMAN over flat files to have gains in backup efficiency, which is the case for the backups themselves, but we'll need to commit an extra 17 tapes per year to back up the flat files as opposed to just adding another source backup to existing tape jobs.
