When using Veeam to manage the the SAP Hana log backups and interval with "Perform log backup with this policy", the interval does not work out of the box.
Behaviour observed on multiple SAP HANA servers, that the log backups were still being send by the SAP HANA server every 1-2 minutes.
Veeam does't configure the following setting inside SAP HANA:
This is behavior by design: we change only log backup period (5/10/15 min, etc.) but we do not modify the interval mode (immediate/service) because in Immediate mode, SAP system runs log backups automatically when a log segment becomes full and we don't want to touch this configuration parameter due to potential negative impact on production. Our monitoring job queries SAP HANA catalog to check whether at least one successful log backup was created within the monitoring interval (15 min in your case) regardless of log interval mode. If there are no successful backups within 15 min, we'll show an error to inform you about SLA violation.
Anyway, your request is noted and we can consider it for future releases based on the number of similar requests.
Thanks for the response. I do think the wording inside VBR (from my screenshot) is a bit misleading then, and could be improved: "Applies redo log backups settings to the SAP HANA systems, included in the policy and monitors the backup execution"
I agree, many thanks for the valuable feedback! In fact, I already thought about it when I saw your post. Maybe instead of "redo log backup settings" it would be better to say explicitly which settings we change to avoid ambiguity.
