Re: Transaction Logs in Backup Copy or Replica
No, transaction log backups are not copied to Capacity Tier.

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
@foggy I understand that granular intervals of restore (using logs, for example) aren't consistent with the idea of long term retention points. However, if a backup jobs takes advantage of the new copy/move feature of SOBR with Capacity Tier, and the use of GFS in the primary job definition, SQL transaction log backups are left on-premise (like it used to be with backup copy jobs). So if I want to get a copy of my transaction log backups offsite, I need a Backup Copy Job, which now supports copying transaction log backups. Correct?

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
Has anyone figured out a good workaround for this, that doesn't require storing a duplicate copy of data?

[MERGED] Agent For Linux Central Managed - Archive Logs Secondary Copy?
Hi,
I have a physical server running Oracle databases that is being backed up by Veeam Agent on Linux to a Veeam B&R Server where the agent is manged by the B&R Server.
The backup of the databases lands in a scaleable repo with performance tier local and capacity tier in Azure and that works well.
We are backing up the database logs every 15 mins via the Veeam B&R server that is set to grab the logs direct from the physical server and stores in the local repo but if I lose my data centre then it is only the backups that are in Azure that are available, I see no way to get the logs that are stored by Veeam for redo restores to be sent to the capacity tier along with the backups.
Is there a way to do this via Veeam so I have copies of the backup in Azure AND copies of the logs in Azure via Veeam or is the assumption you will hive off the logs to a seconday location and simply use Veeam to backup the logs in that secondary location?

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
Hello,
please see the answers above.
With Oracle you cloud maybe use the RMAN plugin where we introduced capacity tier support with V11.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
Hi,
Any feature requests about copying Databases Logs to Capacity Tier ? Is this in Veeam's Roadmap?
I'm backing up my Oracle Physical Servers with Agents targeting a SOBR, the only way to achieve this is using RMAN plugin then?
Thanks.

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
Is it OK to coexist RMAN Plugin Backups along Image backups with Agent to get the full protection by the Capacity Tier feature?
I'm aware about the Oracle Archive Logs, we can have only one tool managing it, so i would disable Log processing within AAIP.
Thanks.

Hello,
yes, if disable the log processing for image based backups, then RMAN can be used.
Best regards,
Hannes

for V12, we are extending object storage support massively. the plan is to support database logs to object storage, yes

Cool,
Will there be a capacity penalty for the object storage storing these logs ?

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
I need to clarify this statement... database logs of application aware image processing backup (SQL etc.) can be stored on object storage with backup jobs or backup copy jobs. For capacity tier, V12 will be same as V11 - no copy of database logs. So if you need a copy on object storage, the backup copy job would be the way to go (instead of capacity tier)the plan is to support database logs to object storage, yes

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
Hello, does someone knows whether this behavior "For capacity tier, V12 will be same as V11 - no copy of database logs" did change somehow with V12.1?
Cheers,

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
I don't see this mentioned in the official What's New in 12.1 document. @PetrM will know what are our plans here.

Re: Transaction Logs to Capacity Tier
Hello,
Correct, there are no changes in 12.1 but we see this request quite often and it definitely makes sense to think about implementation in one of our future releases. Let's say we have such plans but I'm not ready to share ETA.
As a workaround, you may point the backup job directly to an object storage repository.
Thanks!

+1 for this feature. Is a deal breaker for using Capacity Tier.
