Grouping Expressions again
I am trying to setup business view in our environmnet and ran accross this post http://forums.veeam.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12780 which is exaclty what i want to accomplish. Unfortunantly the same expression is not working for me. This is what I am using:
Example VM: USNORMSDC09
Example VM: USCAMMSFS09
Case
When left(name,3) = "NOR" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,3) = "CAM" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
End
Case
When substring(name,7,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"
When substring(name,7,2) = "FS" THEN "File Server"
Else "Other"
End
I am only getting Uncategorized when testing. Im trying to sort by location which is the 4, 5 and 6th letter in names and then by function
Example VM: USNORMSDC09
Example VM: USCAMMSFS09
Case
When left(name,3) = "NOR" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,3) = "CAM" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
End
Case
When substring(name,7,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"
When substring(name,7,2) = "FS" THEN "File Server"
Else "Other"
End

Re: Grouping Expressions again
Hi, Jayme. As far as I can see, letters “D” (DC) and “F” (FS) are, in fact, 8th symbols not the seventh ones. So, the final version should look like this:
As to the first expression, from my perspective, it should be as the following:
Thanks.
Code: Select all
When substring(name,8,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"
When substring(name,8,2) = "FS" THEN "File Server"
Code: Select all
Case
When left(name,5) = "USNOR" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USCAM" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
End

Re: Grouping Expressions again
lol, may work better if i could count! SO now im using:
Case
When left(name,5) = "USNOR" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USCAM" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
End
Case
When substring(name,8,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"
When substring(name,8,2) = "FS" THEN "File Server"
End
I am successfully getting the location but no function in the validation test
Case
When left(name,5) = "USNOR" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USCAM" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
End
Case
When substring(name,8,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"
When substring(name,8,2) = "FS" THEN "File Server"
End
I am successfully getting the location but no function in the validation test

Re: Grouping Expressions again
Do you mean that you do not see the correct categorization in the expression result field?

Re: Grouping Expressions again
I might have been wrong in my assumption. May I ask you to try the original version of function and see whether everything works as expected:
Thanks.
Code: Select all
When substring(name,7,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"
When substring(name,7,2) = "FS" THEN "File Server"

Re: Grouping Expressions again
i have changed to the following:
Case
When left(name,5) = "USNOR" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USATL" THEN "SSC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USCAM" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "CABUR" THEN "TCPC AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USMOL" THEN "TCPF AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USSEN" THEN "TCPF AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USZEB" THEN "TCPF AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "CAHAW" THEN "TCPF AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USDAY" THEN "GRASS AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USAUS" THEN "GRASS AMER - "
When left(name,5) = "USCOM" THEN "GEO AMER - "
End
Case
When substring(name,7,2) = "AS" THEN "APP Server"
When substring(name,7,2) = "BK" THEN "Backup Server"
When substring(name,7,2) = "DC" THEN "Domain Controller"

When substring(name,7,2) = "DB" THEN "SQL Server"
When substring(name,7,2) = "TS" THEN "Terminal Server"
When substring(name,7,2) = "WS" THEN "Web Server"
End
my expression results with USATLMSDC09 is SSC AMER -
The substring doesnt seem to be working but all the location in the first expression work fine
Case

Re: Grouping Expressions again
In the way I see it, everything seems to be correct. You might also want to check upper/lower cases and see whether everything is written rightly. Otherwise, you might want to open a ticket with our support ticket and let them investigate it directly. Thanks.
