Need help with categories and tags

Post by cwilliams »

Hi all, just trying to get Veeam One working in a way that suits our needs and also new to tags in vsphere. I've read the manual and I'm struggling to get business view to do what I want

In vSphere VM's and templates we have something like this

(Folder) Department A (tagged as Category=Department Assigned Tag=A)
-> (Folder) Project Z (tagged as Category=Project Assigned Tag=Z)
-> (VM) VM C (tagged as Category=Project Assigned Tag=Z)
-> (VM) VM D (tagged as Category=Project Assigned Tag=Z)
-> (Folder) Project X (etc)
-> (VM) VM F
-> (VM) VM G
(Folder )Department B
etc

So in Business View I created a Category called Department with custom attribute Department (don't really understand where this underlying values comes from) and group type dynamic

In groups I created

CASE
WHEN Tag("Project") = "Z" THEN "Z"
WHEN Tag("Project") = "X" THEN "X"
ELSE "Other"
END

Was expecting to see a couple of groups but only get "other"

Anyone help me out please

Thanks

Hi,

What data do you have if you type in this expression: "Tag("Project")"?

Thanks!

Hm... and what about Tag("Department")? Just trying to understand what is your defined category name for these VMs.

This also returns nothing. As far as I can tell my tags look ok and veeamone has created tags based on the built in groups in vcenter

Ok, will it be possible to do a quick remote WebEx session with our support engineer to review all other dynamic expressions? The examples above should return some values, if all tags are successfully collected. When you open a ticket, please let me know your case ID, I will share it with the devs.
