I am new to Veeam, but very experienced with EMC Networker, and I need some assistance doing in Veeam what I do in Networker.
v11.0.1
I have a Windows cluster that presents as a file server. I want Veeam to be able to backup this file server. (not back up the cluster, mind you, just this one file server role. A cluster can have multiple roles, and I only want one). Anyway, when I go to add a new file share, I give it the DNS name of the file server role as presented by the cluster, and choose credentials I have verified that I can use to log into said file server. But Veeam tells me that it either can't find the path, or the credentials are wrong.
I know the DNS name I am entering is correct. I can RDP to that same DNS name, and use the same credentials that Veeam has, and I can log in just fine. But I can't get Veeam to see the file server this way.
So I'm doing something wrong, or missing some simple concept, but what? In Networker, I can create a "client" that is that DNS name. Then I can add that client to backup jobs, etc. Veeam must be able to do something similar, or functionally equivalent, but I'm not seeing how to do that.
Can anyone help me out of this confusion? Do I have to define this as a Windows server, and choose failover cluster? I don't want all the cluster resources, just some of them.
Thanks

Re: Can't seem to define a file share on a Windows cluster
Hi Michael
Are you adding it as a managed file server or SMB share? Please try SMB Share.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Can't seem to define a file share on a Windows cluster
Yes, I was finally able to open a ticket with Support, and they pointed me at the SMB share, and I was able to define it that way.
I wish I could have a backup job that included multiple types of sources (i.e., VMs and the SMB share, all in one job), but I can work around that.
Thanks

Re: Can't seem to define a file share on a Windows cluster
Hi Michael
Thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately a single job won't be possible for "image level"- and "file share"-backup jobs. They work differently.
Best,
Fabian
