Feature REQ: Track VLAN ID's of PVE vms

Post by RamaPartridge »

We currently have multiple PVE clusters in production and after doing extensive restore testing (confirmed with Veeam support on Case #07596169), there is NO current functionality in Veeam's PVE backup solution that will track the VLAN's associated with each NIC on the backed up VM's.

Especially in the case of firewalls, where there can be as many as 10 NIC's on a vm, this becomes extremely tedious for me to have to catalogue every MAC address and and VLAN of each VM on the backup job, so that in the event of that cluster dying, we can successfully restore from backup with the correct VLAN's on the VM's.

Hello Rama,

I wonder if you use tags for each VLAN. If so, why?

It is possible to create VNets under SDN > VNets.

And Veeam can back up and restore these VNets. This applies to both the original and new locations, which can be selected from the wizard.

@rovshan.pashayev

What we have is a VLAN aware bridge and then tag the VLAN on the NIC of the VM. Similar to how you'd do it in ESXi.

So, as following

Physical NIC -> Bond -> Bridge
The physical NICs are plugged into a trunk on the switch.
