I have a new production Proxmox Cluster that we are deploying. We are using VBR to migrate machines from HyperV to PVE by doing a backup & restore.
We have Windows Server(2016-2022) and Linux (Ubuntu 22LTS, Debian 12) that are being migrated in this fashion.
Once they are migrated we are starting new backup jobs for PVE.
One of the servers failed to backup. This was running Debian 12. The machine never properly did a backup once it was restored.
When reviewing the logs, there was nothing available specifically for Proxmox, so we exported the logs for support using the date time frame (Case #07632351).
The UI for the job failure indicated the job failed with errors, but no details when the VM was selected. Unselecting the VM showed additional error: "Failed to perform backup: Failed to prepare disks for backup".
I did verify that no snapshots existed.
To resolve the issue, I powered down the VM, did a full clone to the same disk, and same format (RAW). The new clone powered up and then reconfigured the backup to see the new clone. This time the job ran without a problem.

Re: Info: Proxmox VM Failed to backup - Resolution
Hello,
I see that the case is already closed. Would you be able to open a new case and upload the debug logs of the failed VM backups?
I mean, if the original machine is available, and you can reproduce the same scenario.
Please share the new case number here for reference.
