StorMagic

Post by lowlander »

Hi,

StorMagic announced a new HCI platform with its own hypervisor: https://stormagic.com/svhci/

Is this solution in sight for future support for VBR?

Hi,

Thank you for your request. It is noted, but we don't have an ETA for support on this hypervisor.

Rovshan, it's actually strange because StorMagic claims on their product page that they do have support from Veeam.

See the link and quote below. Could it be that you are not aware of this? Or are they just lying?

For Veeam a direct integration would only be possible when they would use KVM/oVirt. Then it would just work as we support this combination. We do not have done any tests for this with them and likely they use another hypervisor manager (not oVirt).

In general you can use our Managed Agents to rollout them automatically and protect the environment. They might have tested and verified correct processing, this is why we are on the list. Similar to the other backup vendors.

You're right, they do KVM, but without the oVirt management layer.

OK, so no modern tech, just good ol' agents, which is essentially a non-starter for any reasonably large environment... Alles klar! :)

I would not say that our agents are a non-starter.
We have many customers with thousands of server that use the agents.
They provide Incremental Forever Image backup based on CBT and have central rollout/update of the agents.
In the daily Veeam processing and Job handling you will not see a lot of differences.

At restore the BMR ISO need to be booted and from there the restore happens very fast. Here there is a bit of an overhead.
You could for example use a Hyper-V or Single ESXi server to use it for Instant Restore from the Agent backups for emergencies.
Later move this with backup and BMR restore at a maintenance window.
