Hi all,
For our client, we are backing up their Azure VM. This windows servers has SQL database.
Every night, they create a backup copy (I do not have full details of how they create the backup copy, the only details I have is they rename the database) for their SQL database and the azure VM backup sees this full change and copies all the data.
When the Azure VM backup runs, it copies a huge chunk of this server, and by looking at the transferred size change, we understand that it is the full database file.
What we want to understand is there a way for backup to understand the change from within the database and avoid copying this full DB.
I don't think this is possible, but similar to on-prem (VMware), is there a SQL agent available that can be installed in this Azure VM, which will help with Azure backup appliance or workers understand that the change is not the full db.
In the doco - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbazu ... ent&ver=70
It is mentioned that Backup for Azure VM does not install agents. But wanted to check if there is another way.
This client does not sue Azure SQL instances, instead similar to on-prem, they have Azure VMs and then install SQL within these servers.
Thanks.

Re: Azure VM backup with SQL database
If you'd like to use agents you can always use cloud protection groups in Veeam Backup & Replication https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... hines.html
