Veeam Azure appliance and 3rd party software

Post by johannesk »

Hi,

We are being required to install a 3rd party software (Qualys agent) to our Veeam Azure appliance we use to control backups of Azure vm's.

Would that be problematic for the appliance or is it ok to make such changes to the appliance?

Regards,
Jóhannes

Hello,
we don't test with 3rd party agents and we don't know the side-effects of the Qualys agent. So it's unsupported.

But we don't prevent customers installing it. If you install it, you could help the community by giving feedback after some months :-)

Best regards,
Hannes

Hi,

As long as that agent doesn't involve in the:
- Used VB for Azure ports
- Updating the OS to the latest Ubuntu

It should not be a major issue for it to run on the system. I also took a look at the installation guide for Linux from January 2023 and I couldn't see anything that would impact our solution at all.

Do keep in mind that if you need to open a specific port for this agent you set up the proper firewalling rules to not have a security issue on the VB appliance.

Any other feedback regarding this is welcome as Hannes mentioned.
