Backing up Hyper-V passthrough disks?
Hello, I have a VM that uses a passthrough disk to expose the physical disk directly to the virtual machine (as opposed to saving information in a VHD file). On that VM, I use a VHD for the system disk (the C: drive), and then use the passthrough disk for file storage (the D: drive). When I back up the VM, it only grabs the information in the VHD file, and not the information in the passthrough disk. Is there a setting I need to change, or does Veeam not support passthrough disks?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hello Scott, pass-through virtual disks and disks connected via in-guest iSCSI initiator are not supported and are skipped from processing by Veeam B&R backup/replication jobs automatically. Thanks!

Is this a feature that will be added soon?

Re: Backing up Hyper-V passthrough disks?
I doubt that, as data that is stored on a pass-through disks within a virtual machine cannot be backed up by the Hyper-V VSS writer (Microsoft limitation).
However if still want to backup this disk there are some workarounds you might want to use: http://blogs.technet.com/b/virtualizati ... riter.aspx

Re: Backing up Hyper-V passthrough disks?
Can we configure VEEAM B&R to backup the disks in the VM which are not pass-through? For example just the System drive? I am trying to perform this on a backup job, but the entire VM is skipped. Now running B&R 6.1, job still skips the entire VM. I have tried to setup exclusions to only backup the IDE System drive and nothing else, no success.

Please open a support case, since this is supposed to work.

[MERGED] Pass-through disks directly attached to a VM
Hi
We need to get clarity on Veeam B&R v8 solution.
Scenario
The Hyper-V environment consist of physical disks that are directly attached to a virtual machine (sometimes referred to as ‘pass-through disks’).
Question
1.Is above scenario supported by Veeam B&R v8 solution?
2.If NO, what will be the workaround to address the above scenario?
Thanks

Re: Backing up Hyper-V passthrough disks?
The workaround would be to use virtual disks of supported configuration. Please check our our release notes document > http://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_8_0_r ... tes_rn.pdf

Re: Backing up Hyper-V passthrough disks?
Hello dears,
Is this scenario still applicable for Veeam v9.5 update2? In other words, are we now able to backup VMs with pass-through disks (iSCSI connected disks) using VBR 9.5 U2 or do we need the Veeam agent for Microsoft for that?
And what about replication for such VMs?
Thank you in advance.
Have a great day
