Backup Over San for VMs on Hyper V Hosts

Post by Mahmoud Moawad »

Dear All,

I am new to VEEAM Backup & Replication 8.0 Software, MY company is now evaluating Veeam in order to replace our backup solution Ca Archserve
our environment consist of about 400 VMs on Hyper V hosts, the Vms is configured with Virtual Fibre Channel adapters and the SAN storage is directly assigned to each VM, Most of our services are configured on a highly available way; for example, for VMM we have 2 virtual VMM servers joined a cluster; for SQL we have 2 VMs joined a cluster with a shared storage and soon.
my question is
Does VEEAM able to backup each VM with the SAN storage directly assigned to it?
would we be able to backup our SQL cluster, VMM Cluster and all other clusters with a shared SAN storage?
i there is a way to backup our VMs through SAN "LAN free" taking into consideration that our hypervisor is hyper-v?
Thanks Alot

Hello,

1-2 If this storage is assigned via guest OS capabilities and not on the VM level, then you will not be able to back it up. Please check out our release notes document for more info on supported configurations > http://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_8_0_r ... tes_rn.pdf

3. You can either use on-host or off-host proxy server to backup Hyper-V VMs. Here is a bit more info on supported backup modes and architecture > http://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/80/h ... proxy.html

Let me know if that helps!
