Best SQL Server design worked with VAEEM
Hi..
I'm assessing ALWAYSON with SQL server. Currently we have two nodes clustered configured under VHDX and have VAEEM backup v.8. According to vaeem backup is supported under crash-consistent state ( please elaborate I read documentation but nor got the idea).
My question if I change from failover cluster instance to Always-On, will Vaeem support both backup and replication like any other disks? I'm not big fan of Clustering on virtual servers. However, I'm looking for something can help me out to reach a good design and get benefits from many third parties like VAEEM.
I would like to hear about Always-ON vs FCI from VAEEM perspective. Thank you.

Yep, shared vhdx can be backed up only in crash consistent mode.According to vaeem backup is supported under crash-consistent state ( please elaborate I read documentation but nor got the idea).
Yep, starting from version 8 we do support SQL Always-On.My question if I change from failover cluster instance to Always-On, will Vaeem support both backup and replication like any other disks?
Can you elaborate on that? What is particular information you're looking besides the fact that one scenario guarantees nothing but crash-consistency, while the other consistency on application level?I would like to hear about Always-ON vs FCI from VAEEM perspective.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.
1- What is different between crash-consistent mode and other modes as well?
I read the documentation but not able to understand.
2- Can I make /backup replication for AlwaysOn SQLCluster (No shared storage and it is a VHDX)?
if yes, in all modes or in crash consistent state only.

Application consistency means all application specific operations are frozen in appropriate manner prior to taking a snapshot. Without that, machine will be in crash-consistent state - the same as it would be after a system failure or power outage. More information about Application Aware Image Processing can be found here.
Without shared VHDX you can backup AlwaysOn Cluster in application consistent manner.
Thanks.

Thanks. I got it.
Ok what about replication of AlwaysOn cluster that is installed under VHDX (not shared)?
Is supported in application consistent manner?

Correct. In terms of consistency there is no difference between replication and backup jobs.Is supported in application consistent manner?
