CSV Volume dependency not created on a entire restored VM

Post by aweiss »

Hi All

My customer uses 6.1.0.181 to backup VMs on a CSV cluster (2008R2 SP1 + Latest patch)
We are able to successfully perform backup and also entire VM restore.
Veeam is on a physicial server attached to Equallogic storage using Off Host mode and Hardware VSS provider

When performing Entire VM restore to a new location (the VM is restored on the CSV cluster), the only thing that is not restored is the dependency between the CSV volume (c:\clusterstorage\volume) and the VM itself. You can see this on the Cluster Management MMC Snapin under Service and applications, under the VM itself.

If you look at a normal VM created with Add Service and Application Wizard form Cluster MAnagemtn, you should see that a dependency is created between the VM and the CSV volume. That is not the case when performing an entire VM restore with Veeam.

Anyone having this issue ?
Thks!!
Best regards
Alex

Alex, we were able to reproduce this in our lab and developers confirmed the issue with volume ID detection during restore. Will address it in one of the following updates. Thanks for pointing that out!
