This is related to case 06223828.
I have a server running Veeam Backup and Replication backing up to a local tape drive. At some point, the tapes didn't get changed for a week or so which caused some issues with checkpoints I suspect because the backups kept failing.
Now I have several checkpoints taking up a large amount of space that are failing to merge. I do not want to try any manual merge techniques as the last thing I want is any sort of data loss in my production environment.
Has anyone else seen this issue and been able to gracefully been able to resolve it?

Re: Hyper V Checkpoints failing to merge
Hi Rick,
I doubt that there is another way to solve it than to merge the checkpoints manually, not sure that something can be done at the level of backup application. I wouldn't expect any data loss issues but on the other hand, I'm not ready to guarantee that everything will go smoothly because I'm not familiar with your environment. You may ask a question related to the checkpoints merge on the Microsoft Community or contact Microsoft technical support as well.
Thanks!
