Impact of switch CSV snapshots to VM snapshots

Post by GabesVirtualWorld »

Hi
We're running into issues with VMs crashing that is triggered by CSV snapshots under heavy load. In the job properties it is possible to switch off "Allow processing of multiple VMs with a single snapshot".

What is the impact of switching this off? My guess would be longer backup times and more free space on the CSV needed for the snapshots. Are there any other issues we should keep in mind?

Hi Gabrie,

When you tick the checkbox a single volume snapshot will be created for all the VMs instead of creating a separated snapshot for each VM. This option can decrease the load on the Hyper-V server. There are some limitations, though. If you use Hyper-V 2016 along with on-host backup method this option is not applicable.

I would suggest checking the Hyper-V logs in that case.

BR,
Fedor
