only incremental

Post by frankive »

Just added a cloud service provider. the backup copy job seems to run fine, also restores.
But when i start f.ex sql explorer and it shows restore points, it show all restore points as Incremental.
Shouldn'y at least one of the restore point be a full backup file?

Backup copy job says "successfull" and the restore pont seems to have created just fine and all data also seems transferred.

A few years ago we had the same situation and in that case we could not restore from such a backup line.

Hi,

If you mean that you observe no restore points with "Full" in the "Type" column specified in this wizard, then please contact our support directly so they can investigate as that does not seem right at all. Please don't forget to post your case ID.

Thanks!

I forced from 7 to 2 Restore points. That created a Full backup in the column

Keep in mind that a backup copy job is always a forever forward incremental. It creates no fulls unless you configure long term archive retention (weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly backups).

Joe,

Although that is true, there should be at least one full anyway in the very beginning of the chain.

Frank,

That is, it's either a UI glitch or something way more serious what could affect restores in future (which is why I insist on opening a case with our support team).

Thanks!

What could have made the first 4 restore points incremental? And when reducing to 2 restore point it ended up with 1 full and 1 incremental? Can we Trust this backup?

Could it be the first backup copy job does not finish the first 24 hours? Job set to daily

In case BCJ fails to transport the first restore point, it is expected to keep copying datablocks from source
(when a new restore appears) until there is a full backup on the target. Kindly let our support team handle this.

Thanks!

.vbk files is showing from properties of backup files and is also confirmed from the SP-side.
But as a first restore it shows only Incremental files in the GUI from the restore points so it will be intereseting to see what support can find.
