Hi everyone,
I certainly understand Backup and Replication and Backup Server and Infrastructure, etc., but I simply don't understand what the proxy server is. I think it resides on the backup server. I think it helps with resource allocation and decreases resource use as well. But, I am still not sure what it does or what it is.
Thanks.

Re: Proxy server
Hi Bert,
by default indeed role of proxy server is on backup server, but you can assign the role to another server to off-load the backup server.
Basic backup proxy tasks include the following:

Re: Proxy server
Not to confuse with Gateway Server!
Proxy Servers only work when you have a Connection to the Productions Storage via SAN and have the right Hardware VSS Provider from your Storage.
Gateway Servers off-load from the Backup Server but work via LAN, with a gateway Server the data is not going through the Backup Server (If you have no other GW Server and the Backup Server will be the GW Server)
