Recommendation sizing vhdx file

Post by frankive »

Not a question 100% related to Veeam, but in the manner of backup it should be..

We have a customer who wants to deploy a 15 TB fileserver, and they would like it virtualized with hyper-v 2016.
Should we create such a large .vhdx file or is it better to create perhaps multiple .vhdx files and use storage spaces inside?
Or perhaps a large physical array and use pass-through disc to the vm?

How would Veeam want to backup this?

Hi Frank,

Your customer is good to go with the single VHDx, since it can be easily up to 64TB in size and still you're able to have a consistent backup. Thanks!

And the prime question.. Raid10 with HP P440AR vs storage spaces 2016? :)

I would prefer Raid10 with hardware controller, since the dedicated device should provide you a better performance.
Please review existing thread as it might contain useful considerations about storage spaces 2016. Thanks!
