Veeam 3PAR Snapshot Leftover

Post by burak.bas »

Hi everyone,

I today realized that Daily Exchange Backup Job left snapshot on 3PAR. I see two snapshots with same timestamp which one is RW and the other is RO. RW snapshot seems to be exported to first node of the Hyper-V Cluster, and the RO is unexported. showvv and showvlun outputs from 3PAR are below.

750 vss0000008_ro_051716233103 snp vcopy HyperV-MailboxDB-TransactionLog 8 RO normal -- -- -- 14680064

I have opened a case with ID 01807989. What can be caused this issue? Is it safe to delete these snapshots?

Thanks in advance.

In addition to previous issue,

Some of backup jobs are waiting a couple of hours in "Resource not ready: Snapshot" state. There are 7 backup jobs are waiting in that state. It seems like that all of them is waiting each other to take the snapshot. I could not understand what is the limit that cause this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

According to the case notes, it seems that Veeam B&R has requested the storage to remove the snapshots and received the successful snapshot deletion response. So I'd recommend to contact the storage vendor for further investigation of why the snapshots were not actually removed. Thanks.

Is it safe to remove these snapshots manually?

You can check with your support engineer whether the snapshots were indeed created by Veeam B&R and remove them manually after that.
