[FEATURE-REQUEST] AHV Backup Job priority
We have multiple Jobs which are backed up over 500 VMs with sime TB of Data once a day.
We have also a job which should backup soime VMs once a hour.
The Problem is that the hourly Job is wait until finished the other one - which are run for 20h or longer... So, the hourly Backup is not really working.
On VMware a Job can be define as high prio. Please add this option also to AHV Proxies.

Re: [FEATURE-REQUEST] AHV Backup Job priority
Hi arogarth
Thanks for the request.
I don’t think, that prio high jobs will not stop any backup sessions which are already processing. I need to test that someday in my lab.
I believe is something similar to this one. If yes, then there is a hotfix available so all task slots will be used by the jobs. The hourly job will then also work, even if the other is still running for a single vm.
Thanks
Fabian

To me, that looks more likely as a known bug. If you have enough task slots available, the hourly jobs should run parallel to the other job.The Problem is that the hourly Job is wait until finished the other one - which are run for 20h or longer

Re: [FEATURE-REQUEST] AHV Backup Job priority
Hey Fabian,
the problem is, that the hourly job will process 14 VMs, the other has over 500 VMs splitted into 3 single jobs.
If I start one of the bigger job and that I start the hourly job, the first vm from the small one will process if a slot is free and no more VM in the bigger job is waiting. This is why the hourly will only process if the other jobs are nearly finished.
Thanks,
ARO

Hi Aro
Ok, got it.
I first thought it was the bug I mentioned. But I understand now the issue.

Re: [FEATURE-REQUEST] AHV Backup Job priority
Hi Aro
No update yet.
Unfortunately, I cannot give you any ETA if and when the feature maybe added to Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV.
And as far as I see, the next version which comes out with V12 won't have this feature. But I can check again internally.
Could you maybe use Veeam Agent Backups as a workaround for the hourly jobs? They use the same license as the one for the Nutanix AHV workloads.
Thanks
Fabian

Re: [FEATURE-REQUEST] AHV Backup Job priority
Hey Fabian,
that is a alternative - but a massive network change - because backup-, management- and user-traffic is splitted in seperate network infrastructures - So I have to link every VM to the backup network and deploy agents etc... And restore is also more complicated such as restore whole VM.
Thanks

Hi Aro
Yes, understood.
You can restore an agent backup directly as a Nutanix VM. No need to use a recovery media.
