Support for Multi-Cluster Environments

Post by dmrichards26 »

We are currently on one of the original releases of the 1.0 VAN product, and looking at upgrading to 2.1.

Since the time of our original Veeam deployment, we have expanded from 1 to 3 Nutanix clusters, and so far have not found a good way to backup VMs that move between our clusters.

My understanding is that even if we deploy a proxy on each of our clusters, VAN is not able to track VMs (by UUID or otherwise) that migrate between them. Even if VAN cannot automatically do this, is there a way to manually assign a VM to a new cluster (proxy) so that a single migration doesn't require a whole new backup chain?

That is correct even with 2.1. We don't don't have a way to centrally track VM's migrating between AHV clusters. If the VM ID doesn't change then I believe it should be possible to run "Import Backups" from the AHV proxy console against the pre-existing repository chain but haven't tested this personally.
