what is the function "auto protection"?

Hi everyone, I really can't understand what the function "Configure VM Auto-protection" (under Infrastruction Settings -> Manage Nutanix Cluster) does. Why do I need to add a protection domain there insthead of adding into a Backup Job? Thank you

Best way to explain this is it is confirming yes or selecting yes to backup via the Nutanix Protection domain. Here is that part explained in the User Guide:
