AWS Veeam instance and license required?

Post by gparker »

Hi,

I have a customer wanting to use AWS as their DR site. So the backups from the head-office Veeam B&R server is offloading into AWS via backup-copy job(s). In case of a disaster at the head-office site, we will want to restore from the backups sitting in AWS. For this: Do we need to keep a Veeam server in AWS to restore these backups that are already stored in AWS? If so, do we need to license it, or can it work independently as we won’t be using that server to take backups as such?

Regards,
George.

There is no need to do that. If you're planning to restore to EC2, then a proxy appliance will be used. If you're planning to rebuild the VBR server on-premises (by importing the configuration backup), then you can stay with your current setup.

License key is not required for restores, so you don't need to license this server. You can install your existing key to that server (if needed).

Thanks!
