NAS to Object storage?

Post by lando_uk »

Hi, is it possible to directly backup \\nas1\folder to S3?

Or do we have to have S3 as part of an scale out repository?

We are looking for quick and simple (and cheap) Fsx backup.

Thanks

There is no method for direct to S3 for a nas backup. Most options require a scaleout

Thanks for confirming. Sorry, I'm new to scaleout, does the performance tier need to be x times the size of the NAS you're backing up? So if i have a 5TB NAS, does it needs to be 5TB+ or does it start streaming to the capacity tier on the fly during the backup?

No problem. Nas backup works in a different way. It would not be able to backup to a Sobr at this moment. It backups to a standard repo directly and then has the option to write to an object repo for archived files.

This link has a very detailed explanation of how this works and how it sends the archive off to object.
