Hi,
Case #07411493
I've read that I can send backup copies from our Windows server and VMware system directly to AWS S3 and use settings created within Veeam. I know I need to create a bucket, however, I see different requirements and odd facts in the documentation so far that are not helpful.
Pretty much everything I've seen goes on about too many details that are off topic and distracting to me. All I need is a list of preparations and the steps necessary to accomplish copying and storing the backups directly to a non-glacier AWS S3 destination bucket. Also, what to look out for and bad actions to avoid.
I'm wondering if there is a focused source of how to perform backup copies to a bucket on AWS or if someone can provide a brief breakdown.
We already have an AWS account in Veeam with one bucket. The AWS part is in place and needs to use a new bucket for this new task. The old bucket is syncing with a tier but Amazon isn't allowing me to handle the space well. I'm sure using Veeam to do it is much better.
I hadn't realized there was an Object Storage as a Backup Target section in the forums. I'm going to try finding info here rather than the sources I previously used.
Thank you.

Hi Bob,
To set up backup copy to the AWS S3 bucket you need to follow the steps:
1) Add Amazon S3 object storage to the backup infrastructure.
As I understand, you've already done it.
2) Create Backup Copy Job and select AWS S3 repository as Target Repository. You can use object storage repositories for this case.
You also can link Backup job to Backup Copy job, it will allow new restore point (from the main backup job) to be copied to the target backup repository (in backup copy job, in you case - AWS S3) automatically.
Please pay attention to the 'Considerations and Limitations', specifically the ports part. That is one of the larger points to focus on, and also consider if you want to go directly to object storage or use a gateway sever to send data.
The main difference is the network routes you'll need to ensure are available:

The main difference is the network routes you'll need to ensure are available:
- with direct, the traffic will go from the proxy server directly to the Object Storage repository, so you need a proper route for this.
- with gateway server, you need to configure it to use as the exit point for the backups to S3 (remember to size the gateway server accordingly, sizing as if it were a Backup Repository)
