Integration GCP Repository
Hi,
I`ve won the task to connect our onpremise Veeam structure to our GCP (ent.).
I studied the veeam online manuals but now I am stuck and hope some of your expierience can help me.
What have I done so far?
GCP
- created a bucket
- created a folder below (\veeam\)
- created a service account (access&security key generated) with rw permission on bucket&folder (inheritated)
Veeam
- connect to Repository
- adding account
- connect to bucket
- stuck at connection to folder
It seems I cant reach the folder within the bucket.
Am I basically on the right track? Or is my structure within the GCP wrong (bucket\folder)
what could be the reason for reaching the bucket but not a folder within, although permissions are same?
Thx

Re: Integration GCP Repository
Are you using Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform and want to have access to its repositories content?
If not, and the idea is to use it as Capacity Tier (a place to automatically offload backups to), then use backup repository wizard, not external repository one.
Thanks!

Re: Integration GCP Repository
Hi,
thx for your response
I want to use Storage in the GCP to outsource yearly backups by Jobs from our Veeam Backup and Replication.
Therefor I followed the backup repositry wizard to the moment I got stucked.
I just can use "connect" , which then leads me the the moment where i ve to define a folder (screen in 1st post)
When I say
"add Repository" >>"select Storage = Standard / Achive Storage" >> error >> "add at least one Veeam BackUp for GCP appliance first"
I receive an error. Do I have to install another piece of software to Veeam, for being able to connect Veeam to GCP?
For now we are using Backup & REplication 11 / std Edition
edith sais: guess i didnt installed the plug-in yet .... so I will report again, after I took that step

Re: Integration GCP Repository
To create a backup target, you need to use Add Backup Repository whereas you're using Connect to External Repository instead. If you read the description in its dashboard, you will see that this functionality is not applicable to what you're trying to do. In particular, the description clearly states that "it can only be used as a SOURCE of backups", while you need a TARGET for your on-prem backups.

Re: Integration GCP Repository
Hi
thx that makes sense.
to get wrong in the correct steps
1- install the GCP Appliance first
2 - add a ext. repository
I noticed the GCP Appliance wasnt installed at all. Did that now.
However I ran in an error while installing the GCP Appliance (Granting account roles... Details: failed to grant account role).
I have to solve this step first.
As it is a new topic I will open a new thread (if I cant get help out of the manuals) for that issue, before I can return to this thread.

Re: Integration GCP Repository
Looks like you're still doing the wrong thing though?
Veeam Backup for GCP appliance is required to backup cloud VMs running in GCP. You never mentioned you had them?
Instead, you said your goal was to:

For that, you just need to register your GCP storage as a backup repository (see my previous post). No appliances of any sort are required here.
