SOBR - Moving data

Post by RicardoFon »

Hi

I have the following scenario, a SOBR was created with Cool and Archive storage in Azure and the intended use with GFS is:

- Remain 3 months data locally
- Copy the last month of backup or the last chain to capacity Tier (cool storage)
- Archive older than 30 days to Archive tier (archive storage)

Any chance of achieving this goal?
when will we be able to have a backup copy for a blob storage? will certainly help with the copying processes and ensure that the information was replicated in the Cloud

Thanks in advance

Hi Ricardo

Welcome to the forum.
- Remain 3 months data locally
Could you give me more information on this 3 month? And how you want to set the retention of your jobs?
Is it 3 monthly GFS or are you talking about 90 days Short Term Retention?
when will we be able to have a backup copy for a blob storage?
Backup Jobs/Backup Copy Jobs direct to Object Storage will come with V12.

Thanks

Hi,

Its 90days of retention in the local repository.

In v12 with that feature we can make this happen,

to stay the data onprem 90 days in parallel backup copy only the 30days to Cool and then Archive the information more than 30 days.

Yes, V12 will work for that goal for the Azure Cold Storage. But Azure Archive only supports GFS restore points.
You can't offload 30 daily backups to archive tier. You can move gfs restore points from the capacity tier to the archive tier. And Archive Tier still requires to use a SOBR. Azure Blob can be used as the performance tier. Azure Blob Archive will be used as the archive tier.

Backup Job with short term retention of 90 days
90 daily backups to local storage

Backup Copy Job to a SOBR with short term retention of 30 days retention and GFS retention of 8 weeklies
30 daily backups to Azure Cold
After 30 days, archive the weekly GFS --> the 4 oldest weekly GFS will be moved to Azure Archive

It's the same behavior as today with V11 for the archive tier.
