No, transaction log backups are not copied to Capacity Tier.

@foggy I understand that granular intervals of restore (using logs, for example) aren't consistent with the idea of long term retention points. However, if a backup jobs takes advantage of the new copy/move feature of SOBR with Capacity Tier, and the use of GFS in the primary job definition, SQL transaction log backups are left on-premise (like it used to be with backup copy jobs). So if I want to get a copy of my transaction log backups offsite, I need a Backup Copy Job, which now supports copying transaction log backups. Correct?

Has anyone figured out a good workaround for this, that doesn't require storing a duplicate copy of data?

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

as of today, there is no "integrated workaround".

[MERGED] Agent For Linux Central Managed - Archive Logs Secondary Copy?

Post by FLS_Nick »

Hi,

I have a physical server running Oracle databases that is being backed up by Veeam Agent on Linux to a Veeam B&R Server where the agent is manged by the B&R Server.

The backup of the databases lands in a scaleable repo with performance tier local and capacity tier in Azure and that works well.

We are backing up the database logs every 15 mins via the Veeam B&R server that is set to grab the logs direct from the physical server and stores in the local repo but if I lose my data centre then it is only the backups that are in Azure that are available, I see no way to get the logs that are stored by Veeam for redo restores to be sent to the capacity tier along with the backups.

Is there a way to do this via Veeam so I have copies of the backup in Azure AND copies of the logs in Azure via Veeam or is the assumption you will hive off the logs to a seconday location and simply use Veeam to backup the logs in that secondary location?

Hello,
please see the answers above.

With Oracle you cloud maybe use the RMAN plugin where we introduced capacity tier support with V11.

Hi,

Any feature requests about copying Databases Logs to Capacity Tier ? Is this in Veeam's Roadmap?
I'm backing up my Oracle Physical Servers with Agents targeting a SOBR, the only way to achieve this is using RMAN plugin then?

Thanks.

Is it OK to coexist RMAN Plugin Backups along Image backups with Agent to get the full protection by the Capacity Tier feature?
I'm aware about the Oracle Archive Logs, we can have only one tool managing it, so i would disable Log processing within AAIP.

Thanks.

Hello,
yes, if disable the log processing for image based backups, then RMAN can be used.

Best regards,
Hannes
