Transform taking 55 hours!

I have a backup containing several VMs which normally takes 30 to 60 minutes (incremental). However, the 'transform' has now been running for 54 Hours! It does seem to be doing something, as the Transform xx% done is slowly increasing (now got to 98%). Is this going to be normal every week now? Any strategies for improving things. I'm not too worried about the transform taking a long time, but of course the job has now not been run for two nights, so I'm missing two days of backups.

Bob, what kind of target storage are you using? Please note, that transform operation is heavily random write I/O and is always quite slow comparing to regular backups.

We're using a Synology SAN device with SATA drives. The Synology allows a 'Windows Share'=CIFS (rather than using it as an iSCSI which it also does). Could use a Windows 2012 server with an iSCSI connection if you think that might be preferable?

Might 'Reverse Incremental be preferable? I assume this would lead to rather longer backup times each might, but (??) no need for the weekly transform?

As you can see from Anton's replies in the topic referred above, this kind of storage provides too low IOPS with regular hard drives to perform transform at decent speed. And this does not come down to the connection type.

Correct. Daily backups will run longer, however you will avoid extremely long transformation of the entire chain on synthetic full days.
