Vcenter 5.5 snapshot redhat 6 server problem

Post by jbrullemans »

Hi,

We have upgraded our environment to Vsphere 5.5 with Vcenter Appliance. All is well but one server has a problem. When i start a backup from Veeam of REHL 6 VM with vm tool sequiecence enabled. We see that a snapshot is created on the host but the VCA appliance doesn't report it back. When we login to the host the Snapshot is finished but not on the VCA. This only happens when the snapshot is created via Veeam via the Vcenter Appliance if i created the snapshot directy via Veeam via the Host all goes well.
At the moment the snapshot is created and hanging on 95% the Vcenter loses it connection to the ESX host. Snapshot creation manually via Vcenter gives no problem. After a while 5 -10 minutes the server reports back to the VCA and the snapshot finishes.

We are runnning the latest version of Veeam 7 R2. Snapshot creation of other windows VM on the same host goes well.

Any thoughts?

John

John, could you, please, clarify did you install VMware tools on the Red Hat VM? Was it updated to the last version? Thank you.

Just to be sure - you're experiencing the said behavior when the snapshot is created not committed, right? Does it happen only when quiescence option is enabled?

Thanks.

Yes only when VMWare tools sequicense is enabled. No the VMWare tools are not up to date. But when i connect i directly to the host is does goes fine.

It still might be worth updating VMware Tools and seeing whether the issue persists. If this doesn't help, you'd better contact our support team and let them investigate it directly.

Thanks.

This could be an issue with vCenter Server appliance as well, since direct connection to the host works and other VMs are backed up fine via vCenter Server connection.

Do you enable "quiesce guest files system" checkbox when creating the VM snapshot manually?

Hi All,
