FLR for Windows Dynamic Disks not working after VMware Crash

Post by marcel.mertens »

Hello,

our customer is using dynamic disks in a windows 2003 fileserver and backing up with B&R 7 R2.
He was able to do FLR for files on this dynamic disk, but yesterday the VMhost crashed into a PSOD (E1000 bug).
Today he is not able to do a FLR on a restore point created after the crash. (Only C:\ is shown, D:\ (dynamic disk) not)

There is no error in the windows event log. Will a simple checkdsk help?

Thank you,

Marcel Mertens

Marcel, are there any messages related to this disk processing in the backup job session log? How about trying to perform full VM recovery or Instant Recovery to make sure the disk D: exists in the backup?

No, backup log looks fine. Full recovery and instant recovery works fine for D:.
It looks like a corrupted filesystem on D: so that the FLR explorer can't detect it as NTFS.

Whithin the VM D:\ is fine and running. Customer will run a checkdsk tonight.

I'm hoping that somebody had a simliar issue and can tell me if checkdsk helps.

Greetings,

Marcel

If the disk itself is ok, the next step would be to contact support team to investigate FLR issue.
