SAN Based backup behaviour Query

Post by regnak2012 »

Hi,

We're going to use SAN based backups / integration on a HP 3PAR and we were wondering about one scenario. We plan to create one backup job per Datastore. In the case that for performance reasons we need to create a VM that has Disks on two Datastores (One Datastore with Raid 5, the other with Raid 1 for example), how does this play out at backup time?

Does the 1st Datastore backup job only target those VMDK disks of the VM that are on that Datastore, or does it snapshot both Datastores at that time?

I'm anxious to know if the these two Datastores will end up having multiple snapshots taken during the backup window or not.

Thanks
Mike

Michael, if VM disks are located on different datastores, storage snapshots will be initiated for each of them.
