Exchange 2010 Not truncating logs

Post by coldfire3000 »

Hi All,

I have an issue with Veeam 6.5.0.144. I know its not fully up to date but I am struggling to get the approval to update at the moment...

We have Exchange 2010 v14.03.0174.001 and for some reason Veeam is not truncating the Exchange logs.

I have VSS settings enabled in the job like normal
There are no VSS errors in the event logs - In fact there is no sign of the Exchange being asked to do a backup whatsoever...
There are no VSS writer errors/state errors

Other Veeam jobs (not exchange) list that logs on other servers have been truncated ok, the Exchange job does not have any such entry in the Veeam log.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Chris, what advanced guest processing settings do you have in this job exactly (Guest Processing step > Advanced)? Is this Exchange server a member of DAG or a standalone one?

Hi Foggy, thanks for the quick reply.

The backup is setup to Backup the Hyper-V cluster with several servers in it.

The guest processing settings are 'Enable application aware processing' turned on.
Domain admin credentials specified (and verified)

Advanced settings: Require successful application processing

Logs: Truncate logs on successful backup only (the backup has not failed in a long time)

Indexing: Index everything except and default files/paths

To me it seems like the request to VSS from Veeam is not getting through to Exchange for some reason...?

Thanks

Chris

Yes, but is this Exchange server a member of DAG or not? If yes, then your issue might look similar to this one > Backing up Exchange 2010 - How to truncate logs?

Sorry, I missed that bit! Replying on my phone!

No, not part of a DAG, single Exchange server only.

Then it is worth contacting technical support to have them review the log files for possible reason.
