Veeam Explorer for SQL

Post by scott.anderson »

Been a while since this was last requested. (at least a couple of weeks!)

Hands up anyone else who would like to see an Explorer for SQL restores!

If we can get enough people replying maybe the team at Veeam Development can be persuaded to release one :)

I am happy that we have found a good name for the new feature! But it is more important for me to know what sort of functionality are you looking for from this tool? Probably not the item-level recovery similar to other Veeam Explorers, because it is already provided by the existing SQL AIR wizard, which no one seem to be using ;)

Probably exactly like the other Explorers because its so convenient and the Air isn't 8)
And most of the development must have already been done to get Explorer for Sharepoint to work!

This we certainly have no intention to do based on SQL AIR usage statistics. Exchange AIR was much more inconvenient (a few times longer time to prepare the lab comparing to SQL), but most users were still trying to use it. SQL AIR was totally opposite, so clearly most of its functionality is simply not required for SQL admins.

[MERGED] SQL and AD restore

Post by mdmd »

Hi all,

Just a quick query, I've tried searching the forums but cant seem to find an answer.

Will future version of Veeam, is there plans to integrate the restore feature through B&R for SQL and AD like you can with SharePoint and Exchange currently. (unless you can and im missing something!) It would be nice to do this without the use of Sure backup, and AIR especially.

Thanks

Mike

Gostev,

I suspect most backup and SQL admins are like me and find that its easier to use SQL maintenance than go through the SQL AIR process. An Explorer would make all the difference in which solution is more likely to be used. I only want one object back, not 2 servers! (AD and SQL).

There will be no separate beta... I'm not sure if it will be incorporated when the v8 beta arrives
