Decent configuration info if backup machine is a vm

Hi,

Where can I find a decent configuration guide to setup the software if I make the Veeam Backup a virtual machine? (Because of technicalities I have to). The user manual, is just summing up a bit of the requirements. It is a serious issue that there is no configuration manual or best pratice setup what so-ever.
What are the steps of configuring a job with the software in this case?
Any help appreciated.

Actually, there is no big difference in setting up jobs as if your Veeam Backup and Replication server is installed in a virtual or physical machine. By the way have you checked our Evaluator's Guide, it contains step-by-step confuguration guides as well as some recommendations on the setup, I believe it should cover your questions, hopefully most of them

Ah, The Eval is new to me. I gone through it roughly.
The reall problem here is: I have installed the backup app on a vm. I have connected my virtual center server. (Running vSphere 4U1 by the way).
I have created 2 iSCSI attached LUN's of 2TB for backup. Formatted it as VMFS. What do I chose at: Backup Mode?
And more importantly: What would be my destination in this case? How do I get the file on the LUN? (At the screen: backup destination, destination and path to folder).

Addy,

To leverage all the benefits of vSphere and Veeam Backup and Replication 4.1 you should definitely choose vStorage API mode, as for what vStorage API mode to choose it depends on your setup.

If you're able to make those LUNs presented as local disks to your Veeam Backup server via ISCSI initiators, then you should be able to chose those disk at backup destination option. And if you're using Veeam Backup and Replication as virtualized backup server, try to use Virtual Appliance mode, that should give you best perfomance.

Hi Vitaliy,
Thanks for the quick reply. The vStorage API mode is not an option. My primary and my secondary iSCSI devices use different MPIO's. I can only install one MPIO.
So the next best option is the virtual Appliance mode.
I have chosen this, now looking at a elavation of superuser problem....

Well, your iSCSI SAN LUN should be mounted on Veeam Backup VM and NTFS formatted first. Can you see the volume representing your iSCSI SAN LUN in the Windows Disk Management snap-in on your Veeam Backup VM?

As soon as you can see it under "My Computer", you will be able to select this as your backup destination in Veeam Backup ("This computer or shared folder", and type the actual drive letter\folder for backups in Path).
