Additional Application Support

Post by mmcgrath »

During a recent Veeam webinar I was directed to post in the forum regarding additional application support. So here it goes...

Our ERP system uses a backend Informix database. I'm not happy about it, but that's what we're stuck with for the time being. Because of this, we run two different backup programs; Veeam for all of our VMs and TSM for the Informix database. TSM is able to utilize On-Bar to do table level recovery from Informix.

Is it possible to have support for Informix built in to a release in the future? Or...is anybody currently backing up Informix with Veeam and able to do table-level recovery?

Max, to have consistent backups for this kind of applications, you can either use pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts to stop and start db services/daemons prior and after snapshot creation or use native tools to dump backups on VM disks and then use Veeam B&R with VMware Tools quiescence enabled to back this VM up. For the script samples you'd better contact product vendor.

Restore could probably be performed via Instant Recovery, however would involve more manual operations than with TSM.
