B&R v6 Replica don't use SAN Transport mode Target?

Post by BigGeorge »

Hi all,

Problem / Questions:
During replica job I've see that the Proxy Target use [nbd] transport mode instead [SAN] mode (even if we configure the proxy by force them to SAN transport mode).
This is a normal triks?
Or some misconfiguration occour?

The Replica log are:

Code: Select all

:: Using source proxy VMware Backup Proxy [san;nbd]
:: Using target proxy srvsmtpproxy.test.local [nbd]
Environment specifications:
I've tried Veeam B&R v6 (6.0.0.153) in our test environment.
We run 2 Win 2k8r2 Ent UK (the first is Backup Server, Repository and proxy, the second only Proxy).
Both have direct access to our SAN (windows iscsi initiator)
The VMs run on ESXi v5 cluster (2 host)

Some help?

Thank you

Giorgio

Giorgio, Direct SAN mode cannot be used to populate replica VMs on target host. However, in the case where target backup proxy VM is registered on the host that has access to the target datastores, you can get advantage of the Virtual Appliance (hotadd) mode for writing replica to target through ESX I/O stack. Thanks.

Hi Foggy,

tell me if I understand correctly:
The transport method that are available as "replica target" (from destination proxy to target storage) are:
  • 1. NBD
    2. HotAdd (if the target proxy are a VM that see the attached datastore)
Thank you

Hello, this thread is still valid? I've installed a new physical server with Veeam 7.0 patch 3 and during replication the source mode is SAN and destination mode is NBD (the Veeam server has correct iSCSI visibility to both source and destination SAN)

Thanks

Yes, the situation is still the same - Direct SAN mode cannot be used to populate replica VMs on target host. So, you have to use either Hot-Add or NBD proxy. Thanks.
