Sharepoint Restore

Post by digitlman »

I just stood up a test Sharepoint 2013 server, with a local SQL 2012 install.

My backup server has Veeam 7 and SQL 2008 on it.

Am I correct in thinking that, in order to do a Sharepoint Explorer restore, the backup server needs to have a SQL 2012 instance on it as well?

Correct, the staging SQL Server must have the same or a later version as the server that hosts restored SharePoint content databases.

Is there any way to install just the Sharepoint Explorer program on the VM that has SQL2012 on it?

No. But you can install another B&R server there, and import the backup file...
Might be easier to just upgrade SQL to 2012 on your main B&R install though.

That's what I thought I would have to do eventually.
