NTFS Alternate Data Streams used by AFP Protokoll
Hi,
we use Alternate Data Streams in NTFS Filesystems (AFP Network Protocol) with Windows 2012R2 Server.
After Restore a Single File or restore the full entired vmware disk file the Alternate Data Streams (Meta Data) are missing.
Does anybody knows a workaround for this issue?
We use B&R 7.0.0.839
Regards

I can confirm that FLR and OtherOS FLR do not restore alternate data streams.
It should work if you restore the entire virtual disk file.

Yes, I also doubt that ADS could be somehow affected during the restore of the entire VM hard disks, since metadata is stored along with the files. However, during file-level restore most likely only default stream is opened.
What particular type of restore do you use?

It might be also interesting to understand on what stage alternate stream is disregarded - during mount or restoring operation. You can:
- 1. Start the normal "Guest Files (Windows)" restore wizard in VB&R
2. Open Windows Explorer (while leaving the Veeam File Browser up)
3. Browse to C:\VeeamFLR\<servername>\<volume#\
4. Find required file and check whether the alternate data stream is there, using PS:
Code: Select all
Get-Item -Path <Path> -stream *

If I do that, the alternate streams are there:
If I copy the files manually to the original server, the streams get copied as well and all is right with the world
If I use Copy To ... or Restore from FLR it does not copy the streams.
Code: Select all
Stream Length
------ ------
:$DATA 0
AFP_AfpInfo 60
AFP_Resource 30740

If I use Copy To ... or Restore from FLR it does not copy the streams.

Now we've limited the scope to the restoration operation. The information has been passed to QA team. So, thank you for the tests; much appreciated.

No thanks necessary, as I will profit as well from a working FLR with alternate data streams (in the future).v.Eremin wrote:Now we've limited the scope to the restoration operation. The information has been passed to QA team. So, thank you for the tests; much appreciated.
BTW I wanted to say that Veeam's support team is really good, reads the forum and participates in it. That is really appreciated; unlike some other big backup software vendor (who shall remain nameless) whose execution of support interaction with customers is far worse.

Actually, the team behind this forum is not involved in support. But this does not challenge the fact that Veeam support is great, indeed.

my problem is solved. I deleted the backup store of this VM. I create a new backup Job with application aware settings and it works.
