Does Veeam commit exchange logs

Post by jmanteiga »

Does Veeam commit exchange logs when backing up an Exchange VM. If so and if we require another application to commit the logs instead is there a way to not have Veeam commit the logs?

If you enable Veeam VSS, then yes, it will commit (purge) Exchange logs.

Don't enable Veeam VSS, but then it will be questionable if Exchange will be fully recoverable with a restore from Veeam. It should be crash consistent at that point, so it will probably still be OK, but all bets are off.

Tom,

You're absolutely right, enable VSS only with Windows Credentials will ensure Exchange and all VSS compliant products will be consistent, so it will flush transaction in volatile memory and commit logs into DB.

Jason,
You can read more on this white paper: http://www.veeam.com/vmware_and_vss_apl ... ry_wpp.pdf

Cheers
