Veeam Explorer for Sharepoint 2013 Conundrum

Post by rufus »

I downloaded Veeam Backup & Replication with the excitement of performing file level restore only to be met with slight disappointment.

My disappointment lies with the way I configured my SharePoint Environment.

Configuration:

1. Sharepoint and its database server are installed on two different machines.

2. The Sharepoint server is a VMware virtual server.

3. The database server is a physical server.

If I read the documentation correctly, it is assuming that the Sharepoint server and its database are located on the same physical server, which is the source of my disappointment.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

My initial instinct is to perfrom P2V conversion on the database server. I hate P2V conversions because they frequently render a conversion that is not quite right.

Theoretically, you can use Veeam Explorer for SharePoint on database files restored from your physical database server backup. But yes, your ultimate goal should really be to have 100% virtual environment, sooner or later.
