file backup theory

hi guys,
i need your advise regarding this.
on my Veeam Server i have 3 Disks
Disk 1 = OS 80GB
Disk 2 = backup repo 1TB
Disk 3 = Sure back up disk 2 TB

Disk 3 = is a external USB.
i have a daily backup job save all to the Disk 2 back up rep 1 TB.
i want to make a copy job to copy the data from disk 2 to disk 3 in case the veeam server or hardware issues happens. than i will have the data already secured on a external USB HDD.

is this a good or bad Theory ?

Hello Julien,

It is always good to have a secondary copy of your backup files on a separate media. In order to that you can leverage backup copy jobs.

is it true the copy job takes long for the first or is it always taking so long ?
i've created a job to copy the back up files but it takes now 6 hrs copying and still on 16%
any idea's how to adjust the speed on this ?

Backup copy jobs takes the time to required to transfer full VM backup, it can take some time, but the duration depends on your target storage performance and connection link to the repository.

Seems like USB drive can be a bottleneck here.

any idea's how to adjust the speed on this ?

Can you try any other storage to try the backup copy job?

the speed issue seems to be fixed. yes its a secondary location "USB Drive "

i am backing up the backup files and Veeam configuration.
let say those files are saved on the external HDD and the VEEAM server is DEAD because of hardware issue
after installing a new VEEAM server.
what are the proper steps to take to recovery the backup ?

Hi Julien,

You will need to import the backup of the config file (this will re-create all your jobs and connection settings to virtual infrastructure). If you need to restore VMs, then you can either import backup files to the new backup console or run a rescan job against the repository where backup files are stored at.

i will try this on a different VEEAM server and see if the configuration and jobs are coming over.
we are implementing this for one of our client soon and need to make sure of all is working .

Tested the configuration and all works fine
only one thing the back's up i made were full backup when i try to restore on the new server it's shows they are "Increment".

And on the file system those backups have .vbk extension,right? Thanks.
