Continuous data protection

Post by Clod »

Hi all,

I need to make a backup copy continues for a virtual machine that has an MS access database that is constantly updated. Is there a way to setup veeam to avoid the loss of any updating of the file?

Thanks a lot!
Claudio.

Hi Claudio,

For sure, Veeam Backup & Replication is made for data protection.

Veeam B&R uses application-aware image processing to create transactionally consistent backup of a VM running such VSS-aware applications as SQL Server, Exchange, and others without powering them off. Not only does it ensure successful VM recovery, as well as proper recovery of all applications installed on the VM without any data loss, but also it notifies applications about them being backed up.

You can create a backup job, define the job schedule and more.
We also have some flexible handy tools for Microsoft Exchange servers.

Would you like to know more about the product or have any specific question?
Thanks.

Nikita, this is not really correct. Veeam does not provide CDP (Continuous Data Protection) - there is always a certain RPO - hence data loss - possible between backup jobs. The only way to provide no data loss is buying really expensive realtime CDP solutions or ... solving the problem on the application level, which is what most people in the field would do.

Hans is correct if Claudio is asking about CDP.

Thanks for the correction, Hans.
In this terms, a job running continuously is launched as soon as previous job processing is complete. You can run jobs continuously or with an interval as low as one minute to implement near-CDP.

Thanks for the answers.
I currently use Veeam B&R to different virtual servers, but as I said before I need a real-time backup.
I try the "continuously" schedule job, but it's use a lot of time between the subsequent jobs.

Someone tried any solution for the realtime CDP?

Thanks again

Claudio, you may want to consider Windows shadow copy functionality and Veeam replication/backup jobs, this should allow you to restore to the most recent state of the file and the VM according to your backup job schedule. Just my 2 cents.
