Chassis type and detected cores on Physical Proxys

Post by TimeKnight »

I seem to have an consistency issue with a new Physical Backup Proxy. I have a new Dell PowerEdge R720xd that is acting a Veeam Proxy and Repository. It has two Intel E5-2650 v2 CPUs. Veeam 7.0.0.871 detects that hardware as:
Chassis type: Physical
Core count: 16
This system should report a total of 32 cores (8 cores * 2 CPUs * 2 (Hyper-Threading))

I have another physical server that I am using as a proxy (Dell PowerEdge R710) with two Intel E5649 CPUs and Veeam detects that hardware as:
Chassis type: Virtual (Hyper-V)
Core count: 24
This system reports correctly 24 cores (6 cores * 2 CPUs * 2 (Hyper-Threading))
http://ark.intel.com/products/52581/Int ... PI?q=E5649

Both systems are running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
So, why the difference? One system shows up as Virtual (and counts HT cores) the other is reported as Physical (and does not count HT cores).
Any ideas?

I do have an open case but i am looking for other people’s experience.

Brian, please continue investigating this through support. Apparently, chassis type is not correctly detected for the second host, for some reason. R&D is interested in the logs for this case, so it would be much appreciated if you could provide them to your support engineer for further analysis. Thanks.
